Cataract is clouding of normal clear crystalline lens of the eye. It leads to decrease or loss of functional vision. It can be compared to a window that is frosted. The amount and pattern of cloudiness can vary within the lens.

Cataract can be detected by your ophthalmologist. You should visit your ophthalmologist if you have the following symptoms:

• Painless blurring of vision
• Difficulty in driving
• Glare or light sensitivity
• Double vision in one eye
• Needing brighter light to read
• Poor night vision
• Frequent change of glasses

How fast does a cataract develop?

It varies among individuals and may even be different between the two eyes. Most age related cataract progress gradually over a period of year from the age of 40. Other Cataracts especially in younger people with diabetes may progress rapidly over a short time. It is not possible to predict exactly how fast cataracts will develop in any given person.
