How Cataract is detected?

By performing a through eye examination the doctor can detect the presence of cataract.

    What are all the tests performed before Cataract surgery?
    • Routine blood tests including Blood Sugar, Complete Haemogram
    • Ultrasound immersion biometry
    • Optical biometry (IOL master)

    How is Cataract treated?

    Surgery is the only way a cataract can be removed. No medications, dietary supplements or exercises have been shown to prevent or cure cataracts.

    When should surgery be done?
    Surgery should be considered when cataracts cause enough loss of vision to interfere with your day to day activities. Based on the symptoms the ophthalmologist will decide together when surgery is appropriate.

    How Surgery is performed?

    During the Cataract surgery the cloudy lens is removed from the eye. The focusing power of the natural lens is restored by replacing it with a permanent intra ocular lens implant – IOL. At Lotus the highly experienced Consultant Cataract Surgeon performs the surgery using a microscope, miniature instruments and latest phacoemulsification equipments like Legacy 20000, Constellation equipments.

    The latest technology helps  our experts to remove the cataract without harming the surrounding tissues in the eye. At Lotus we are regularly performing surgery for the normal cataract and patients with complicated Cataracts such as: Cataract by birth, trauma and cataract associated with Glaucoma and retina, etc., we serve according to the need of the patients.

    After the surgery the patients have to apply eye drops as per the doctor’s direction. The doctor will check eye post operatively to make sure it is healing properly.

    Rigid IOL (PMMA)          – Used for conventional surgery SICS / ECCE. Larg incision more than 6mm.

    Foldable IOL     - Used for Phacoemulsification with 2.2, 2.8 mm incision.

    Foldable IOL - Unifocal - Patient can see distant vision clearly. For near vision he has to wear glasses.

    Multifocal IOL - Patients can see distance, Intermediate and near vision without glasses.

    Crystal Lense - Patients can see all distances without glasses. (Latest lense).

    Acrylic IOL       - Acrylic lenses are commonly used and Acrylic material will be suitable for   diabetic patients also.
