About the Golden Eye Care Services

Senior Citizens are a treasure to our society. They have worked hard all these years for the development of the nation as well as the community. They possess a vast experience in different walks of life. The youth of today can gain from the experience of the senior citizens in taking the nation to greater heights. At this age of their life, they need to be taken care of and made to feel special. Lotus salutes for their services to the nation and community. To recognize their contribution Lotus is pride to offer free eye check up services and treatment if required at concessional rate during this period.

The loss of vision and eye diseases like Cataract, Glaucoma, Retina and age related macular degeneration are major eye problems of the elderly. Early check up and timely treatment would prevent from the loss of vision.
Cataracts should not be taken lightly; the disease clouds the lens in the eye that affects our vision. As we get older we sometimes develop protein that bundles together and clouds a small area of the lens which over time can grow even bigger and seriously impair our vision. Some symptoms are bad night vision and blurry vision. Fortunately, cataracts can be removed with surgery if necessary.
Diabetic Eye Disease: Diabetic eye disease should be taken very seriously, it can actually cause blindness.  Many of us with diabetes mellitus may not even be aware that we have the disease. The sudden shifts and changes in blood sugar can cause vision to become very blurry. To combat and possibly prevent diabetic eye disease we should always strive to maintain a proper weight with regular exercise and good healthy eating. Also stay away from smoking at all times.
Glaucoma is a silent killer of vision. This condition is marked by increased intraocular pressure and decreased visual function. Treatment for glaucoma may include medications or surgery. If there is a family history of the condition or it is diagnosed, your eye doctor may recommend that you get eye exams twice per year.
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD): This condition involves deterioration of the macular (the most sensitive part of the retina, responsible for the central field of vision), is progressive and can lead to serious vision loss or even total blindness. The  risk factors include a family history of the disease, smoking and obesity. Women and Caucasians also have an increased risk of developing AMD.

Lotus Eye Hospital and Institute is offering free Ophthalmic consultation and 10% special concession on investigation and treatment to the Senior Citizens.

Sarkarai Kangal Thittam

Lotus is conducting mass diabetic blindness awareness and screening drive to educate and screen diabetics for diabetic eye disease.

The awareness about diabetic eye disease and visual loss is very poor among diabetics. Early diagnosis and timely treatment of diabetic eye disease will save eye sight for the rest of the life. The prevalence of diabetic retinopathy in India varies between 22.6% and 34.1% and the diabetic blindness accounts for 3% of the total blindness in the country. Diabetic retinopathy can be easily detected by simple eye examination in the beginning even before the vision is affected and cost effective laser treatment will prevent further visual loss.

At Lotus, diabetic patients are clinically examined by retinal specialists in the diabetic eye unit with slit lamp bio microscopy and indirect ophthalmoscope. Patients having evidence of diabetic retinopathy are subjected to a simple test like Fundus Fluorescein Angiogram and OCT which together takes less than 30 minutes. Based on these reports patients undergo further treatment.

The Medical team from Lotus is visiting to all the Diabetologists Clinic and offering free Diabetic eye check up for the diabetics
