Surgeon Commander Vasanth Kumar Ramanathan ,I.N,(retd) was formerly a senior Classified Specialist in ophthalmology in the Indian Armed Forces Medical Services .He has served on board a frontline Naval Destroyer I.N.S. Rana as Principal Medical Officer for two years and contributed to improving frontline wartime resuscitation and evacuation techniques. A merit Ranker in Ophthalmology from Pune University, he has been in charge of Eye Departments at various Indian Naval Hospitals. He was commended twice during his naval tenure: by the Chief of Naval Staff and Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Southern Naval Command for meritorious service beyond the call of duty. A clinician and academic, he is recognized as teacher for M.S & D.O.M.S (Ophthalmology) by Mumbai University. He has performed live surgery to demonstrate advanced surgical technology & techniques in Ophthalmic Conferences in front of peers and has presented several papers. His research interests include Improving refractive outcomes in Cataract surgery Improving safety profile of Cataract Surgery
